Houttuynia cordata Thunb., called Yuxingcao in Chinese, is an important medicinal plant and vegetable consumed the southern regions of China. This review aims to summarize studies on phyto-physiological chemistry, cytology, molecular biology, genomics H. cordata. Studies physiology biochemistry have grown over past few decades. Phenotypic agronomic traits, tissue culture, elemental analysis, photosynthetic studies, bioactive compound identification, antioxidant research been reported. Molecular biological such as those markers, microRNAs, DNA variations, protein transcriptomes also advanced. Recent focused rDNA chloroplast genome this plant. could serve a basis perform genetic breeding, genomic advance, cultivation valuable diversified resource for applications production.
